The interestingness
Of coincidences
Is proportional
To the number of
Recurrences involved
And inversely proportional to
The likelihood of occurrence
And to the amount of time
Spanning the occurrences:
I ยต ten-1/ta
Where te is the expected time between occurrences,
ta is the time spanning the actual occurrences,
And n is the number of occurrences.
The superscript is n-1 rather than n because
It is only a second or subsequent occurrence
Which makes something a recurrence or coincidence
And creates a time span embracing occurrences.
