Late Friday afternoon at work

A former coworker was down visiting

We ended up chatting

For the last couple of hours of the day

Part of what he talked about

Concerned a run-in he’d recently had

Some guy had asked him for something

And it was really bad timing

Doug had gotten little sleep

And was knee-deep in priority projects

To use Doug’s words,

He tore the guy a new hole

The fellow was plenty P.O.’d

And word got back to top management

One of the two founders of Yahoo!

Came to Doug’s cube to talk to him

Doug and David Filo are close associates,

So, David was more concerned with

Doug being overworked than

Doug working over the guy

When I got home from work

There was an email from my big brother

He related out of the blue

A tidbit about our stepmother

He said the IRS

Had torn her a new asshole

That evening I went to Rock’n’Shabbat ---

I got there quite late

Gary & Wendi got there even later

And sat right in front of me

Gary never knew I was right behind him,

Though Wendi and I exchanged whispers

Afterward, during the oneg shabbat,

Gary and I were walking around

As we passed one couple

I mentioned something about the guy

I told Gary that that guy and I

Had dated the same woman

This was especially interesting to Gary

Since he and I had both dated Joanna and Tobey

I went on to mention that the woman

Was a physicist named Miriam

Two women who had approached us earlier

Walked up to us again

I was kind of interested in one of them

And we exchanged business cards

When I got home that night

I looked at her card

I knew here name was Adele

But now learned her last name --- Gerstenhaber

Miriam’s last name is Gersten

And my stepmother’s little-known real name is Adele…
