Surfacing from the Past

It’s Wednesday and

I’ve just had a bite

And am going to settle in

And watch the premier

Of the show “Primeval”

The show was on on Saturday

But it’s only now that

I’m finally checking it out

While eating I glance at

An article in Science News

About “Lazarus species” ---

Creatures thought extinct

That suddenly show up

Very much alive

The well-known example of this

Is the coelacanth,

A fish-like species that was

Presumed defunct for millions of years

But was found near Africa in the 1900’s

It is mentioned in the article,

Which was actually from November

Of last year --- it is now August

I have seen ads for “Primeval”

And so have an idea of it concerning

Ancient animals like dinosaurs

Cropping up in today’s world

But am still stunned when

The show begins and

Within just a few minutes

The main character

Speaks about coelacanths…
