Something Very Pleasant

Right after we finished on the phone

I walked out of my room

My roommate was turning his tuner dial

Through station after station

Suddenly, among the brief bursts of sound

Shooting from each station,

There wafted just tantalizingly enough of a song

To make my ears perk up

From that snatch, I felt,

I might just be able

To reconstruct the song

And thus verify if it were

As fortuitous an omen

As I'd sensed it must be

It was Petula Clark, I knew

Then it came to me:

"I Couldn't Live Without Your Love"

I proceeded to warm up my sound system

So I could try to catch some of the song before it ended

I finally got it, clear and loud

And stayed with it to the end

If you should come to hear it

I have a feeling you'll know why

It's appearing when it did

Was something very pleasant
