On Porpoise

Wednesday 5/24:

Carolyn and I are on our way

To the Quail Botanical Gardens

As we pass Delphinium Street

Earlier in the day I had noticed

A captioned illustration on delphinium flowers

As part of an article on species

That can tell their own kind from others

Friday 5/26:

I finish the book I'm reading

And decide that the next one will be

Anne McCaffrey's The Dolphins of Pern

Sunday 5/28:

Jean and I see a matinee of Johnny Mnemonic

(On what turns out to be our last date)

And a dolphin plays a featured role

Darwin the dolphin appears on SeaQuest

Monday 5/29:

Carolyn and I see dolphins

In the waters off Torrey Pines

Thursday 6/1:

Day of the Dolphin is on TV

And I tape it,

Surprised I don't already have it

Friday 6/2:

The word "delphinic" comes up

In The Dolphins of Pern

And I realize that "delphinium"

Must somehow be based on "dolphin" ---

I look it up and it is

Saturday 6/10:

I finish The Dolphins of Pern during the day,

Then Carolyn and I watch Day of the Dolphin

George C. Scott's squash-nosed, asymmetrical yet handsome face

Reminds me of one other person: Roy Scheider of SeaQuest
