Found Continent

Ronnye and I were leaving

Balboa Park's Organ Pavilion

When a splotch on a step

Caught my eye

Feeling slightly foolish

(Though we were leaving

A tribute to Dr. Seuss),

I stopped Ronnye

In front of strangers all around

And pointed out to her

That the splotch

Looked like South America,

And had her walk back

So that she could look at it

From the right perspective

She agreed that it did

Look like South America

And asked me where

North America was --

Had it been blown up?

I replied that

The umbilical cord

At the Panama Isthmus

Had been cut

Two minutes later

We were walking along

The side of a building,

And Ronnye was telling me about

An exhibit in a cave

In the Saguaro area of Arizona

Where you could push a button

And see a simulation of

The continents drifting

Glancing in the building's window

I was pleasantly surprised to see

That there was art inside

Going by the entrance

We decided to go in,

Though we both had

Things to get home to

We came to one of Ethel Greene's works

Which took us aback --

It depicted a large egg with a hole

Clearly shaped to be North America
