Fine Lines (Does Fatalism Make Dead People?)

When is it enough

To be equally intense

In pursuing our paths,

And when must

The details coincide?

When are we wasting our time

Instead of acknowledging

That we're fighting a losing battle

Due to differences,

And when is it healthy, expected

Working out of problems?

If an inner voice answers "no,"

Can it change its mind?

Might the question have steered it

To only one of a number of possible futures?

Should we appeal that verdict

And strive to resolve our issues,

Or give up?

If we believe in "God's will,"

When do we try to do something about

What we don't like,

And when do we humbly accept it?

On the one hand

Who are we to argue with Life's turnings?

On the other hand

God helps those who help themselves...
