I'd noticed this guy before,

Thinking that he looked familiar  

I'd wondered where I'd know him from,

If indeed I did know him  

The only thing that came to mind

Was that this was the guy

In my Insco programming class

In New Jersey in the summer of 1973

Who was the only one of the nine of us in the class

Who didn't last long at all

When we were all hired after the class ended

(He'd had an English fluency problem)  

It's now February, 1988 and we're in California  

I tried to remember the guy's name ‑‑

Ah, it was "George Liu"  

I thought about the chances of this being George ‑‑

They were pretty slim, but you never know  

Now, here was the guy, in the listings room

At L.A. County Data Processing,

About to walk out when I stopped him and said

"Excuse me, but you look familiar.

What's your name?"  

"George Liu"
