Don't Forget Pewter

Last night I decided to work again

For the first time in several months

On improving the colors

Used when displaying

My fractal creations

There were a few certain hues

That particularly caught my eye

Which had come up

During a couple of runs

Using a variant coloring program

That reflected the last work

That I'd done with the color issue

I jotted down names for these:

Powder blue, turquoise, royal blue,

Pumpkin, lavender, nice greens, and graygreen

I hadn't used the term "pumpkin" before,

Though I had a number of oranges

Today I tried determining

The red/green/blue (RGB) values

For these colors that I'd seen,

Which required some arithmetic

Because these were derived colors,

Based on an original set of RGB values

Plus some additive factors

This worked successfully

And I started modifying

The coloring program's

Table of original values

During the editing and testing

My eye was more than once caught

By the color and name "hot salmon,"

One of the colors which I had added

The last time I had experimented,

And which hadn't yet made it to

The official set of colors

That I have been using for viewing

This evening I resumed reading

Gawron's Dream of Glass

And was startled when

I came to the sentence

On page 104

"The sky was turquoise,

Salmon, pumpkin, pewter."
